BEWARE OF THEIR MEMBERSHIP POLICY
I was hopeful when I arrived at Armstrong that I would have a better experience.
I called ahead of time about their night blooming jasmine about a week ago. The sales person told me they had two left and they would hold them for me at the front - so I was exited to head over there and grab them.
Once I arrived at the front register area, the sales person pulled them from behind the barrier for me — and they were the most scrawny under watered plants, comparatively, in the whole nursery.
I almost walked away, but I really wanted to see if it was possible for them to bounce back, as a good plant mom. I was told, if they didn’t I could get a full refund on the plants with a Armstrong membership.
The saleswoman said they would return to health after consistent watering and replanting — never mind that under their care, the plants were BONE DRY. So, I bought them, hoping to give these orphan plants a home.
After two days, the plants began to dry up and loose their leaves. I noticed some webbing and small insects on the underside of the leaves - I suspected spider mites. After a few days the issue only worsened, even with the use of an organic insecticide/neem oil.
A week and a half passes and the plans are almost dead and I had to take them out of the soil to protect my other plants.
Upon taking them back to Armstrong for my “refund” I was chastised by the saleswoman about my plant care practices. She inspected the plants and told me there were no spider mites despite my showing her photographs. She proceeded to tell me that I should always call ahead and consult them for plant advice.
I almost laughed out loud. When I requested a full refund she said all she could do was issue me a gift card and that it was in the ‘fine’ print. They only will accept ‘viable’ plants that they can re-sell for a full refund.
With COVID-19 safety practices, I was never presented with anything about the membership policy. The salesperson just signed me up on her computer...
When I told the salesperson that upon returning the plant, she said it’s in the fine print and I should pay attention next time - and only gave me a gift card.
That said I will not be using that gift card anytime soon - nor will I buy my plants or anything else here again.
Horrible experience and customer service.... -
This is the only place I go for anything plant related! They're so knowledgable and friendly. Got my Christmas tree there today, and the worker pointed me to the freshest trees and was fast and helpful in getting it packed up. They're really the best.

Good quality flowers in 4 inch pots at $4.99 and a large selection of decorative plants and trees.
Great value and friendly staff. -
Meh. Maybe it was the time of year, but I was looking for some herbs and edible plants, but their selection was limited and the plants they had were looking a little peaked. I ended up getting a tangerine tree and picked one out myself, but no one offered to help me out. They helped a couple of men who were walking around instead.
Armstrong is asking me to email them so that they can hear more about this (privately). I'll elaborate more here...where it can be dealt with transparently (or likely ignored).
I was there for no less than 45 minutes, wandering around, trying to find healthy edible plants. The herb/veggie selection they had was limited and, like I said, the plants looked like they were on their way out. I opted to buy some seeds. I also wanted a small fruit tree that I could grow on my balcony. For this, I needed help. There were several people walking around, but no one even looked at me or said hello. I watched them walk over to help the men who were also looking for fruit trees. I waited within the vicinity, hoping I would be next, and in a way that made it obvious I needed assistance without actually interrupting the conversation they were having. Both employees finished, looked at me, and walked away without saying anything. At that point, I just took out my phone and used Google to find the best option for my situation.
I'm a non binary person and was wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt. As I dug deeper into the reviews, I realize I'm probably not their audience. So I won't go back 🤷♂️ -
Mmmm... after reading all the wonderful reviews about the "quality customer service" I'm going to try again. I walked in today inspired to add indoor greenery to my new home, I literally live 2 minutes away, I should shop local I thought.
Lady never came back to help me... after she said she was going to finish off with this lady. Belittling my question regarding if they are any "herbal plants that can grow indoors?" Silly me.... I wore the wrong shirt. I will try next time when I'm a middle age, white collar -Blouse🤦🏻♀️ not my Wu Tang crop top... I did not feel like all these white folks getting their customer service satisfaction. -
Very helpful, knowledgeable staff. The gentleman who helped me select some plants was well versed in the care and needs of each type. They have a Beautiful stock of plants, flowers and garden supplies! It's spring planting season!

I have a money tree that had a few leaves that had small holes and were yellowing. I had not changed the watering schedule. I went to the nursery for assistance. I had used an
insecticide, when needed over the last year and a half, previously and figured I would find another. I was directed by someone who said she knew about the plant and directed me to use a particular insecticide. She also suggested I cut the tree down in half to stimulate growth. That may have been a sign. After trying the solution, half of the leaves turned yellow and there were dark brown spots. I took pictures and brought leaves back into the store to get assistance.
This time, I could tell everyone was trying to help but I received different advice from everyone I spoke to.
Woke up to more yellow leaves this morning. A year and a half of growth to only hope the tree can recover. -
Great selection of plants and pottery, some real interesting oddities here. Thr folks are all very helpful and the prices are just about right. Do yourself a favor and stroll the outdoor section a bIt to see all the best greenery. Parking may be difficult so be prepared to street park.

Cold middle of the day and despite it ringing several rounds and going to ahold music, saying how important my call was held for a total of 12 minutes before hanging up and calling back, the second call was put on hold for 22 minutes while I got work done on my computer and still no one picked up – clearly they don’t train their employees to actually care about phone calls. Went to a nearby nursery instead who had the bandwidth to pick up a phone call.

What’s up with your cashiers here? Why are they so rude? Hey cashiers, if you don’t love what you do, do something else. I don’t need your negative attitude when I’m just trying to have a good experience. There are plenty of nurseries in the Valley, I was willing to give you guys a shot, what a horrible experience. -1/10

I buy flowers during the year but most importantly is Christmas. They are fresh beautiful well shaped. We have it delivered the guys are great put it in place and make sure we are happy. Thank u Armstrongs

I think the best thing about Armstrong is how friendly and knowledgeable their staff is. You almost can't go wrong in your garden when you've gotten their advice and high quality plants. It's far superior to the big box nursery departments and Armstrong's pricing is competitive with theirs. This location was a bit on the smaller side for me. I like larger nurseries because the selection is usually better.

I really like this place. The prices are more expensive, but you can talk to people who actually know something about gardening, unlike OSH or The Home Depot. In addition, they have a much wider selection of plants, since they specialize in them. They don't have guarantees for plants that die, which is unfortunate, but the selection and knowledge of the employees is great.

Pricey nursery but good selection. Segos and hoke depot has just as much variety for more than half the cost. Staff is friendly, knowledgable helpful. Every worker asked me if I had questions or if I was finding everything ok, and I appreciate this. Just not happy with prices, and lack of deals. Also not the best herb selection. But great choice of flowers, sage, and shrubs. Also alot of letting flowers and perrenials. If you're looking for christmas trees, they have it all, including poinsettias and other small pine tree and evergreen varietals. Still for price, will shop elsewhare.

I've got a brown thumb, so the help their friendly staff offers is the only thing keeping my plants alive. Prices aren't the greatest, but not terrible - they're local, knowledgeable and nice; I'm happy to patronize them.

The parking lot here is a gauntlet of Mercedes and Lexus backing out without looking but when I went in on 2/10, Jill was super helpful and knowledgable about plants I needed and gave me great suggestions for my garden. They get 5 stars, the parking lot does not.

Today I was at the Armstrong Garden center in studio city for the first time in several months. The staff is generally very friendly and helpful, however today I did not have a very nice experience waiting in line to purchase one item that I needed, which I found on my own. The cashier took the man in line behind me first and I was surprised and didn’t understand, plus he didn’t even say anything that I was in front of him in line. I called out to the cashier, who would be helping me then? She said that I would be next and I let her know that I was ahead of that man in line and he was behind me so I didn’t understand why she took him first. She told me that she couldn’t see me, which was not my problem, but rather hers.
This has happened before at the same location because the way they have the location for the line, obscures the cashiers vision at certain points and they are Blindspot’s. Many customers even get confused where exactly they’re supposed to get in line. From the outside it looks like you would lineup at the outer two cashiers, but that is not the case. The line is supposedly up against the outside wall, and yet as it moves you tend to turn to the left and you end up making an L-shaped line. This is because of where the line is located. Yet there are two cashiers on the outside and to the left, and two cashiers on the inside and to the right. When I was inside the store and had the one item, the cashier would not take me when there was no line. I consider this poor customer service and poor physical location of the line. It’s not rocket science to be able to have the line visible to all the cashiers at the same time without Blindspot’s. There are various items that are blocking full view of the line. Why has this not been rectified in a year?
So, of course. I had to wait for the cashier who took the other man before me. If I didn’t need the one item for my plants, I would’ve put it down and left immediately. I doubt I will return to this location in the future. Giving this location two stars is being generous at best. -
Rude cashier. Looked annoyed when I asker her if they had any cheaper priced soil. Not friendly nor helpful. Early on, I was trying to ask for the price of the soil but the employees in the cashier area were too busy talking among themselves instead of helping customers. After paying, we were told to wait at our vehicle for the soil. Waited 15 minutes. Finally my husband went inside to get it himself. I should have listened to him and went to Home Depot. Never going back.

We just bought a Christmas tree from them. When we got the Christmas tree home, we realized that the tree had a ladybug in it.
We put the lady bug in a plastic bag to return it to the nursery, but they would not return it.
Now I have a lady bug in a Ziploc bag at home and I don’t know what to do with it. My cat keeps trying to play with the bag. I’m just worried that the ladybug is going to die.
If the ladybug does die, that’s on your cashiers hands. The one who would not return the lady a bug. -
Great folks here very knowledgeable. This where we get all our Milkweed for California Monarchs!

My lovely wife always finds something she likes here! Good selection of Talovera pottery, and succulents!
