I hired Advanced Air Services through American Home Shield Insurance to fix my AC unit, which was turning on but not producing cold air. The technician arrived and claimed we needed a new compressor, then left. A few minutes later, I received a call saying the inspection had revealed issues with our backyard landscaping, which supposedly rendered the insurance coverage invalid for a new compressor or entire AC system. This seemed fishy to me, considering we've lived in this house for nearly 20 years with the same landscaping surrounding our AC.

I brought in another company to inspect and provide a second opinion. Their assessment confirmed that Advanced Air's claims were entirely false - they'd lied about the landscaping issues and even unplugged a wire to make it seem like the compressor was broken. The only real problem was a faulty capacitor, which needed replacing, and a detached wire that needed reattaching. The replacement parts cost around $200.

I'm glad I got a second opinion before committing to a costly new system. In fact, I'm relieved we didn't waste $10,000 on a new AC. Since Advanced Air's actions were so questionable, my insurance policy has become worthless to me. Their behavior is unacceptable - ripping people off shouldn't be tolerated.
