Sturm Heating & Air Conditioning

My motor blower went out on my furance and I called for an appointment. I was told the service call would be about 299 as it was a weekend or i could schedule it the following day for cheaper 149. I asked for an approximate cost of the repair and he indicated that it could be 600 to around 1000, but he couldnt give a hard estimate as he hadnt diagnosed the issue.this was during our time of 1 degree weather so i agreed to the call.

I told them i had a payne furance and that it was about 24 years old .i asked if they wanted my serial number for it. He told me that it was not necessary as most parts were universal and they carried most parts on the van. I was told that it would be later in the day and the guy showed up about an hour to an hour and half later. I was impressed on how fast they got to my house.

He looked at the unit and indicated that he would not have the part as the furance was about 24 years old ( amazing how he immediately knew he didn't have the part without even looking but I guess he knows his inventory by heart) and immediately went to telling me that units last about 20 to 30 years and then they need to be replaced and he would still charge me the 299 but could schedule me for a quote for a new unit. If i wanted him to fix it he would have to check to see if the parts supplier would open and would cost an extra 75 to 300 to ask the parts store to open up to get it and that if they didn't have it they would still charge me for opening. I then opened my phone and did a Google search and found that replacement part was about 300 bucks and available online with a local option. He told me they would charge me around 600 for the part and that It would take a couple of hours at overtime rate so around 1500 for the repair.

At this point, I told him I no longer required his services and he said he would diagnose the issue to make sure it was the blower motor and he was gonna charge me if he did it or not. He then proceeded to take about 5 min and tell me I had a bad motor as it would not turn freely.

I paid him 324 dollars and told him I would not be using their services again as it seemed more like a sales call then a service call. If they would have told me we don't have the parts or couldn't get them I would have never agreed to the repair as it was a weekend.

The price seemed to escalate at every corner and when I googled how to do the repair and found a video it was approximately 9 min 11 seconds. Not sure how that translates into a few hours of work.. what kind of repair was he was gonna do that they can magically do on the internet in 10.minutes.

I get that it's a weekend and I get that these guys are providing a service but like I said it seemed like I was paying for a sales call rather then a service call and I wouldn't use these guys again as it was bait and switch. I am 324 dollars poorer my wife was pissed as me and my furance isn't fixed.

I am lucky I have amazing neighbors who offered space heaters and support.. these guys aren't them..

Update someone from Sturm reached out after they saw my review and indicated someone would get a hold of me and make things right. Well its been over a two years and no one ever reached out. I went with a competitor and now appreciate how sturm treated me because I wouldn't have found those guys who did an amazing job, didnt play games and didnt scam me. Go look in my reviews if u wanna be treated right for the company who did the work ( I also referred 4 other families to them and they were also happy with the results from the other company).

John called ahead of his scheduled appointment to confirm. Showed up on time. Was professional. Explained what he would be doing with the furnace and ac inspection. For my home pre sale. When he was finished he showed his detailed report with pictures. He was very thorough and left me feeling comfortable about my furnace condition. Thank you so much

Wow! I am totally impressed by the Air duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning and furnace servicing provided by Chuck and Dominic at Sturm!! They both worked hard all day and did an excellent job at all of the tasks!!
They were friendly and personable. (Which I think is super important when you have workman in your home most of the day!)
My duct work has never been so clean!! They did a very thorough job! I highly recommend Sturm!!
