I would not recommend ServiceMaster to anyone dealing with a home fire or insurance restoration.
Our experience has been extremely frustrating and added unnecessary stress and cost to an already traumatic situation. ServiceMaster delayed starting our project for nearly two years, leaving us displaced in hotels and Airbnbs with little communication or progress. When they finally started, it was in the middle of winter right before the holidays, which forced us to stay displaced longer and even pay out of pocket.
We own a flooring business and chose to complete our own floors, yet they pushed back and then pressured us to finish during the holidays to fit their timeline. It felt inconsiderate and unprofessional.
The work itself does not reflect the cost. Painting alone was around twenty three thousand dollars, yet prep work was poor, nail holes were not properly filled, there are visible imperfections, and even brush hairs are left in the paint. In some areas the paint is already rubbing off. Cleaning was also incomplete, with residue left behind and areas like outlets and skylights overlooked.
There is also clear soot contamination in our basement tile and grout from the HVAC system, causing yellow and brown discoloration, which has not been properly addressed.
Communication has been poor throughout, and damage to our home, including windows and screens, was blamed on us instead of being acknowledged.
Now, after delaying the project for nearly two years, they are attempting to rush us to close everything out within a week despite multiple unfinished items.
Overall, this experience has been exhausting. I would strongly caution anyone considering ServiceMaster. If you are unsure of what to do, I would advise that you decline your insurance insurances vendor if it is service master. Vendors like Servicemaster tend to do everything for a bundle price often cutting corners. You will absolutely feel the pain from those corners being cut . Be wary , people . And don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Get a public adjuster , they work for you not for the insurance company . Their job is to make sure you get everything you’re entitled to in your claim. They talk to the insurance company and will handle everything for you . Once you do that , then either hire a contractor to hire all of the small companies to do the work or start calling around and getting prices to give to your insurance company . Whether it be HVAC, PAINTING, flooring , plumbers etc. just trust the process. Your insurance company will pay whoever is in budget. And If it doesn’t fit the budget your public adjuster will make it fit lol. Just plz do it that way !! -
Service master responded to a flood we had in our basement at our home in DeForest WI. They were fast, professional and respectful with our things. They had to move furniture, all the personal items in the room, tear out carpeting and dry out the dry wall. Travis went above and beyond. During his busy day he helped us look for my husband's glasses that we thought he had left sitting in the room that got cleaned out after the flood. He searched through all the boxes for us. He even got out photos that were taken before everything got moved to see if we could spot them in a photo. We are thankful for Tim and Tim's work and for Travis's kindness!

By far the worst place to call in Madison
When you have an emergency and you want your home back the way it looked or close too, well these guys arrived to my home and did a terrible job to my basement walls not to mention the conversation they were having with each other while working and their boss showed up and and encouraged their conversation like they were out having a drink and it was happy hour
Completely unacceptable, wasn’t happy with their work and company in my home
I encourage you to not seek their business
If you want the job done correctly -
This place is Disturbingly Sad
Modern day home invaders except you let them in your home, they continue to lose great workers management sucks the front desk is terrible and they are quick to throw you to the wolf’s if need be
Service master project managers will come into your home and start making things up that doesn’t exist in your home for more of your hard earned money
How do I know these things “you ask because I used to work there
And was asked to charge customers more money even when I said I didn’t feel comfortable with it
Service masters in other states may be alright but the one here in Madison Wisconsin is absolutely the worst
If you don’t believe me fill out an application and see for your self
This is not out of anger
It’s outta Truth

An extremely hardworking team who are experts in the field. During the storms in August they worked around the clock to ensure customers received the highest level of service. This team and their work is top notch!

When a dishwater malfunction caused water damage to our home, Zach and his team did an outstanding job of remediating our home. His rapid response, attention to detail, comprehendible and timely communication, and comprehensive restoration approach was exactly what was needed to help us begin the process to getting our home back to normal.

Connor and his crew were punctual and professional. They were also unbelievably accommodating considering we literally had the week from hell. We were right in the middle of an IVF fertility cycle and a pipe was damaged and caused a massive water leak the day before thanksgiving. Connor was not only great at dealing with our problems, but took time to accommodate are insane schedule. Give this man and his crew a raise

ServiceMaster installed vinyl flooring for us 2 years ago. Immediately we had concerns about the floor buckling. Our concerns were dismissed, but after a year, the floor started pulling up off of the floor completely. Of course, by that time, our "one-year service warranty" had expired and they refused to stand behind their work. I will never use this company again and encourage anyone to think twice before hiring them.

Very knowledgeable and attentive to detail. Respectful of my home. Prompt.

Absolutely amazing!! Came in the wee hours of the morning - Scott, Art, Rockford Crew, and everyone who came to help out was simply amazing! Professional at all times. Hard workers and fast! We had septic waste in our house for over 1,000 sq ft and it was gone in 5 hours. They worked great with insurance and making sure everything was covered so we wouldn’t get a big bill. We will only use them for all our needs!

Both Technicians did a terrific job. They cleaned up our water damage quickly. Scott explained everything in detail. He answered all our texts in a short amount of time. He is knowledgeable and just an all around pleasant person. Excellent!

If I could give zero stars I would. Don’t hire Servicemaster. They installed my floor wrong and refused to take accountability.

Editing to respond to "Response from owner." It was definitely ServiceMaster DSI. Estimates specifically said ServiceMaster DSI - Windsor, and invoices said DSI Holding Corporation. Your team installed the floor incorrectly, downplayed my initial concerns about the installation, and then denied fixing it because the floor didn't actually start breaking until after the one year service warranty had passed. However, because it was installed wrong (AGAINST specific instructions from the manufacturer) the product warranty was also null and void. I understand setting limits on service warranty, but not when you ignore my initial concerns and your negligence negated the product warranty.
