Initially, I looked into Sunrun because of their association with Costco and Home Depot, respected long standing businesses. I'm really glad that I did!
Matt Daily from Sunrun met with me and did an EXCELLENT job of answering questions and determining what solar system would best meet my needs. He was there every step of the way with exceptional and responsive customer service! Everything was completed ahead of schedule with professionalism and integrity. Continuing with EXCEPTIONAL customer service even after the project was complete, Matt Daily checked back with me to make sure I was completely satisfied and to assure me that if I ever had any further questions, to give him a call…..I could not be more pleased!

Had a wonderful experience with Sunrun Solar. Not only were we well-informed & transparently educated by our wonderful point of contact, Anna Pepper, she continued to helped us throughout the process until we were able to (very efficiently) get our new panels installed. Could not be more thrilled with the outcome and excited to start this journey towards a more sustainable lifestyle!

I recently purchased a Sunrun Solar system through Costco, and I couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. From start to finish, the process was seamless and stress-free, thanks to the outstanding efforts of Kim Ravenswood, my sales representative, and the installation team.

Kim guided me through the initial stages with professionalism and clarity, making sure all my questions were answered and that I felt confident in my decision. Her knowledge and dedication were evident, making the entire process smooth and enjoyable. The installation team, was punctual, professional, and executed the installation flawlessly. The quality of their work was top-notch, and they ensured everything was done to the highest standards.

I am thrilled to now power my home and two electric cars using solar energy, significantly reducing my reliance on the power company. Additionally, the whole-home backup battery provides me with peace of mind, knowing I have a reliable power source during outages.

I highly recommend Sunrun and especially commend Kim Ravenswood for her exceptional service. If you’re considering making the switch to solar, look no further than Sunrun.

Edit/update: A service representative proactively reached out, although I had to follow up when the "24 hour guaranteed response" reached three days. While mildly annoying, I don't think it's a representation of sunrun as a whole. As it turns out, my main concern about adding more equipment, while definitely more than a mild annoyance, was probably a miscommunication, which happens. Adjusting from 2 to 5 stars. Ultimately, we are happy with the product. Communication could have been better, but in the end, sunrun took ownership and did as much as they could to make us happy. Can't really ask for much more. I'm also willing to give the benefit of the doubt around expectations of adding to the system. I clearly asked what could or could not be added. Perhaps my question was simply just misunderstood. I'm willing to see things that way given how positive everything else has been.

    Original review:
I did not have any issues with installation or quality of product. I could write a 4-5 star review if that were the extent of my experience. Excel takes their time, but sunrun can hardly be blamed. The reason for my review has to do with awful expectations around potential changes. We were assured during the consultation we could add to the system. We found it difficult to estimate the size system to install. That and adding a battery. These decisions result in potentially $10-30k in costs. Being assured we could always add to our system, we went with a lower production system and no battery.

My advice- they do quality work (in my experience), but they seemingly will just tell you what you want to hear as a last ditch effort to close.

Had we been clearly told that whatever we decided was permanent, we likely would have taken time to think things over. But since we were assured we could make changes later, it seemed like a no brainer to do it.

We're not unhappy, but I'm giving 2/5 because I'm stuck with something I would have done differently. The irony is I'd actually be happy to spend more money and likely would give them 5/5.

This company is full of liars and theives. I will never recommend them to anyone. When we first had a consultation with them about our solar panels we had concerns about pigeons. They told us there would be zero problem with pigeons.. turns out there was a major problem. They refused to come install pigeons guards. So we had to pay to have everything cleaned and installed pigeon guards. THEN turns out the solar panels hadn't been working the entire time we've had them ( 4 years) because THEY didn't install them correctly. And now they are refusing to reimburse us. So disappointed in this company and their customer service

DO NOT GO WITH SUNRUN, they are the absolute worst. They started out amazing, our sales person Spencer has been the only positive part of our experience. He is still trying to do what he can to help us with this disaster. The installers put a hole in our roof which we discovered when it was raining. They were supposed to come and look at the damage so they could get it fixed only to have them not know why they were there in the first place, so they had to come back as they didn't have what they needed. When they finally came back, they had to take the panels off to fix the roof. When they came to put them back on a part was broken and had to be ordered. During this time our point of contact changed with no communication. They had to come several times and it is still not fixed. We had this installed back in November and still aren't able to enjoy solar. They refuse to pay our utility bill due to their error and the outrageous time frame of getting this fixed. The communication has been so bad, they don't keep you in the loop of what's going on and we still don't understand why it has yet to be fixed. This company is horrible do your research and go with anyone but them, don't make the same mistake!

We are currently leasing a Sunrun system, installed about 7 years ago. The system is working as designed and with improvements to the Sunrun website over the years we have been very satisfied with Sunrun's overall performance.

Our energy usage has increased with the purchase of an EV and hot tub so I inquired about adding more panels to compensate. Michael Green was our Sunrun consultant who coordinated the engineering evaluation for adding capacity. Michael was very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient to work with. In the end we decided not to proceed with the installation because the available roof surfaces are partially shaded and the number of panels required would have overwhelmed the roofline.

We have been quite satisfied with Sunrun's customer service which I would say has improved over time. I have no complaints based on the experience we've had with Sunrun.

Charles Renaud was a solar superstar. He helped me add a second system to my home and even helped me understand my existing system sold to me by a company now out of business. He took the time to help me understand completely, and was patient in helping me overcome tech challenges along the way. Kind and respectful, he truly is an incredible consultant and now friend. Sunrun has the longevity and adaptability that no other company can touch, and I'm proud to have chosen them to partner going forward to help "create a planet run by the sun."

I sold my house, transferred solar contract to the new owner. IMO Sunrun was slow to transfer solar services to new owner and I felt coerced into paying for services I didn't utilize or benefit from. I can not recommend this company nor will I use their services in the future.

I had SunRun solar installed this spring and was soon connected by Xcel on May 17, 2023. It was a fairly simple but lengthy process, made easy by SunRun's Bruce Cameron here in the Denver area. The installation team finished its work over one morning---loud, but clean and efficient. Since then I have averaged 20.68 kWh per day of (2213 total) electric generation from 13 large panels rated for a total of 5.2kWh. My Xcel "NET meter" has rolled 1004 kWh backwards over these past 107 days (often cloudy) into my Xcel solar bank dollar credits. These I will draw upon when my solar production is less than monthly usage during the short winter days. The lengthy Xcel bill is difficult to comprehend but can be figured out. Suggestions: 1. Add as many solar panels as you can now so you can increase future electricity usage as needed. 2. Change your Federal tax withholding rates to zero until you have equaled your 30% tax credit savings. Then readjust back so your annual tax withholding will be correct. Use this money to immediately payoff 30% of the total bill. Use your Costco Shop Card rebate for same purpose. 3. If your roof is older, it makes sense to get a new one and have its cost qualify for the 30%federal tax credit also (read the regulations carefully.)

Beware assuming you’ll be able to transfer this product when you sell your home. Their partner will just leave you high and dry and could care less about your deadlines or need to transfer for successful close. Be prepared to call 50 different numbers if you ever experience an issue with their financing. Until they fix this issue it’ll remain a 1 star.

Under no circumstance whatsoever should you do business with this company. We signed June 1st, 2022 and it has been a NIGHTMARE of delays, lies, and surprises ever since.

You very likely spoke to an extremely personable and friendly salesperson at Costco and now you're here wondering if you should go with them. DON'T.

You will find yourself in a never-ending hellscape of getting your questions answered by your salesperson or project manager one day, followed by, "Oh they should never have told you that" by someone else down the line.

    - We signed June 1st, 2022 and told to expect 60-90 days (so worst case, late Aug).

    - We were told afterward it'd be sometime in September

    - After _many_ emails and calls, we managed to get our install completed mid-September thanks to our wonderful PM Michelle. Without her jumping through hoops and our persistence, no way would it have happened in Sep.

    - And then, delay after delay after delay.

    - Our system didn't start producing until ... are you ready for this ... MARCH, 10th 2023.

Fast forward to February 2025, we noticed that our system wasn't reporting any energy to the Enphase app and that it hadn't been since mid-December.

This, predictably, took 3+ weeks from my initial call to someone coming to the house because of complications and inefficiencies in SunRun's support system.

The tech who came to the house was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. He quickly figured out what was wrong with the motherboard that should be supporting the upload of the data to the SunRun/Enphase app and he resolved the issue.

As with so many of our interactions with SunRun, individual people are kind and well-intentioned, but the company's systems and operations will drive you absolutely crazy.

Because our system hasn't been reporting production for the past several months, we are currently being told that it will not be credited to our account.

    Our agreement states:

    15. PROACTIVE MONITORING SERVICE AND DATA. Dealer will proactively monitor your System for twentyfive (25) years. The parameters of our proactive monitoring service are as follows: • We will proactively monitor your solar energy system on a regular basis. • If our monitoring system indicates that your solar energy system is not performing as expected, our monitoring team will investigate the matter remotely. • If the investigation reaches a decision of no trouble found (NTF), we will not contact you. • If the investigation confirms a potential problem that requires an on-site investigation, we will contact you and recommend a path forward.

Obviously, this hasn't been happening. We noticed the issue in February and are now wading into what I'm afraid will be the deep, dark abyss of trying to get SunRun to make good on their promise.

Save yourself and pick another company. I wish we would have.

    UPDATE: Mar 19

    From Jada, Field Service Support

Sometimes we can experience a data upload, which is where the data is uploaded over the course of a few days/weeks. This is a possibility, given how long your system hasn't been working properly. I will continue to keep an eye on your system production, but I haven't seen anything pop up yet.

I spoke with my leadership about this earlier today, and it sounds like even if that production did populate, it is not likely we'd be able to compensate for that credit due to the terms of your agreement.

Our monitoring system is automated. While we do monitor the system, there can be some errors with this process. We are working to improve this process to avoid any other situations like this.

    ...

    Got it. So:

    - Yeah, by proactively monitor your system we mean an unreliable automation that can totally drop the ball for a couple of months.

    - And also, if you do bring it to our attention, we're not really going to compensate you for anything.

Under no circumstance whatsoever should you do business with this company.

I've been with Sun Run for over 10 years and while my system performs remarkable there has been several times when I have had to call customer service on nonperformance issues and I can say I'd rather have a root channel done. Customer Service is horrible. Yesterday I was on the phone with a representative regarding my 3rd failed critter guard (I Have a family of squirrels living underneath). And of course, it's out of warranty!!!! When I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told she was busy but would call me by the end of the day. Never heard from her. My issue started a month ago and still no resolve... A technician was out this week and told me my critter guard was installed improperly but since it was out of warranty I would most likely have to pay to have a new one installed. Customer Service can't reschedule me till the end of January. Sun Run - I lease your panels - if the squirrels damage them who's going to pay to repair them

I had Sunrun schedule a technician at my home because they noticed underperforming energy production. We lease. The tech identified an issue that needed a replacement part, and said that as leasing customers, that Sunrun would provide a credit to our account for the underproduction.

We had to schedule them back out - there was no follow up or communication on when a part would arrive. We're now told that our other 7 panels "overproduced" and we met minimum guaranteed energy production from Sunrun, contrary to what their technician told us.

So there you go - I may have a contract with you with verbiage indicating a minimum provided threshold, but my take is that your Customer Service, had they been more on top of your obligations in service, could have identified this sooner and actually had us overproduce by an additional panel. Now we're basically told "go away." With Xcel costs as high as they are, you screwed your customer.

Our project had its ups and downs, frustrations and wins, but after having solar for almost a year I can confidently say that it was worth it.

After 9 months, our 8 panels have produced 3722 kWh of electricity. It has cut down on our electric bill significantly, saving us more money than they cost. The panels alone do not power our entire house but they go a long way to reduce our electric bill, plus it’s a nice feeling to run a load of laundry during the day for “free” since we’re not taking anything from the grid.

The project itself was not without its challenges. For anyone new to solar, understand that it will take months to go through the inspections, project design, approval from the city, applications to the power company, installation, and (at least for us) approval from the HOA. We had to modify the designs a few times and there was a problem with Denver’s code that almost axed our project.

Fortunately, the people at Sunrun are as knowledgeable as they are flexible. Despite the stress, we were able to work through the challenges and finish the project. There have been no other issues since installation. The equipment just works.

I’m still happy with the results 9 months later and I expect I will be years on. It’d be easy to give Sunrun a 5 star review if everything had gone well but where I think a 5 star review is really deserved is when things aren’t perfect but the team is able to make it happen. They all did a great job.

Went deeper into debt with SunRun, for pretty much zero return. Our monthly energy bill is still around $100-$200/month, plus we have to deal with the regular monthly payments for the panels, which are about $90/month. Xcel Energy doesn't even properly count the solar contribution to the power grid, and I've long since lost the will to fight with them about it, and SunRun has provided essentially no support in that realm. Not worth the investment in the slightest. I wish I could travel back in time and tell myself not to sign up with them or any other solar panel company before doing a LOT more due diligence.

Absolutely stay away from Sunrun. Salesman seemed nice but the installation was terrible. Now I have a damaged roof that they will not fix. See the pics for yourself. To make it worse they first said that they would fix the roof but now they are saying they won’t. Too many solar companies out there to work with this shady one. If I wasn’t already under contract I would have the panels taken off and go with someone else.

We've been thrilled with Sunrun's service and product! We switched to solar with Sunrun on our first home in Broomfield two years ago, and we are about to get our second system installed on our new house in Evergreen! Whether you choose the service model with no installation costs, or buy the panels outright, it's good to have multiple options, and any option is certainly superior to relying on coal fired electricity which powers the majority of Colorado. Sunrun has had first class service throughout these couple years, and I would recommend them to anyone. Do the right thing, use this amazing Colorado sunshine, and switch to solar with Sunrun!

EDIT: I was contacted swiftly by Elly, who directly managed and updated me on my case. Finally got my panels up and running and received a credit. Would be 5 stars without the issue.

Would give 0 stars if it was an option. I had a lease transfer and have been waiting 4 months just to get my panels re-installed.

They no call / no showed the day of installation. I have called about 15-20 times out of my personal time and have had ZERO contact from the company.

As a new customer this has been a horrible experience. I would recommend looking at alternative providers if you are considering using SunRun

I have a number of issues with this company but overall they ended up doing the right thing. We had a solar system installed in the spring of 2019. The installation was delayed due to missing parts. When the install was done they damaged our roof tiles and it took many calls and emails to them before they responded but to their credit they did eventually take care of the problem. Our electric bill in high season fell from well over $100 to now about $20 a month. Not a huge savings when we include the solar lease but I feel good about how this helps the environment.
