Outstanding Teamwork and Leadership by Chuck and Ariel

It's been an ongoing pleasure of working with Chuck, the Superintendent at Nelson Construction, and Ariel, the Project Manager, and we couldn't be more impressed with their dedication, professionalism, and leadership throughout the entire project.

Chuck demonstrated exceptional on-site management skills. His attention to detail and ability to coordinate with the crew ensured that every phase of construction ran smoothly. Chuck’s deep knowledge of the industry, combined with his hands-on approach, meant that any challenges were quickly addressed, and solutions were implemented without delay. His clear communication and willingness to go the extra mile made the entire process stress-free for everyone involved. Chuck’s leadership on the ground truly set the standard for excellence.

Ariel, as Project Manager, was equally remarkable. She ensured that all aspects of the project were planned meticulously and executed seamlessly. Ariel’s organizational skills, ability to manage timelines, and proactive communication with all stakeholders were crucial to keeping everything on track. She was always available to answer questions, provide updates, and ensure that all the details, no matter how small, were taken care of. Her collaborative approach and problem-solving abilities were vital in ensuring the project's success.

Together, Chuck and Ariel form a powerhouse team that delivers results above and beyond expectations.
    Thanks to Ashley too!
Their combined expertise and commitment to excellence make them a pleasure to work with, and I would highly recommend Nelson Construction to anyone looking for top-notch construction management.

We used Nelson construction for a bathroom shower that was leaking. They came to the house and did a thorough investigation to determine where the leak was coming from. Once the repairs started, Chuck was their daily inspection person. He checked to make sure the days projects were completed to his satisfaction. If something was not correct, it was corrected. We were very impressed how he made sure everything was as clean at the end of the day as it was when the day started. Everything with Nelson was lined out before it started. There were no unexpected surprises. Very happy with their work and employees.

Jesus Cedeno provides 6 star quality customer service for Nelson Construction! He approached our renovation as if it was his own. Thorough and relentless with his problem/resolution skills. He is very professional to deal with and was a great liaison between us and the sub contractors. He took on numerous responsibilities that were not his own to ensure we were satisfied and the project moved along in a timely matter. If he is your site supervisor, rest assured he will have your best interests in mind. Thank you for everything Jesus !!

We recently worked with Jesus Cedeno on a plumbing project, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. Jesus was professional, punctual, and extremely knowledgeable. He communicated clearly throughout the job, kept everything running smoothly, and delivered high-quality work without any issues. It’s not easy to find contractors who are this reliable and skilled, and we truly appreciate his dedication and attention to detail.

On behalf of Cass Plumbing, I highly recommend Jesus Cedeno for any contracting needs.

    Smooth Job, Great Teamwork!

I had the pleasure of working with Jesus Cedeno on a plumbing job recently, and everything went smooth from start to finish. As a contractor, Jesus is professional, reliable, and knows how to keep things moving efficiently. Communication was on point, the worksite was well organized, and we knocked the job out without a hitch.

My initial contact with Yokasta was
February 24 when we started to layout a very rough design. She then spent many hours coming up with a design that would fit into the limited property space available. Design given to engineers and she proceeded to layout booklet. She was able to keep everything within allowances allocated.
The interim Project Leader was Jesus who was then reassigned to another project.
Tim came on board and hit the ground flying. Numerous problems were encountered in getting the building permit but he was persistent and once approved, worked constantly getting various subcontractors lined up and protect was completed at record pace. Tim worked off majority of punch list and then Jesus returned to not only finish remainder of punch list but also identified some additional items to do or redo to make it look more professional.
Thanks Nelson to the owner and their outstanding team.

We wanted to get the extensive repairs completed to our hurricane-damaged Belleair condo in time to be back in for the holidays. Nelson provided both a competitive bid and met our timeline. Our construction Project Manager, Chuck, maintained seamless communications, providing daily updates via an online app as well as by text or phone as needed. Chuck made himself immediately available to address any issues that popped up, and the project was managed on schedule. Quality of work was excellent, crews were professional, and all condo HOA requirements were respected and adhered to. Owner Greg Nelson also made himself available whenever needed. We were back in and enjoying our home well before Christmas.

Having the grout work on the floors corrected from Nelson’s sloppy job and found $24,000 worth of “custom cabinet” are not so “custom”. Notice the attached pictures. The bottom boards are not even a part of the cabinets - just shoved underneath. The wood is not even the correct width to fit. This isn’t noticed unless a person is looking, which we didn’t think we needed to get on our hands and knees to inspect. Upon further inspection, the cabinet over the refrigerator does not have the correct frame work to support, it is saggy slightly and the cabinets framing the stove are not even not even, i.e., the stove hides that the cabinet is not the same dimension as the others, it’s shorter. BUYER BEWARE!

Of importance: we moved into our renovated condominium November 8, 2021. After 4 months of using our master shower an average of twice a day, by end of February/ early March there was a distinct stench in the shower. At first we thought it was the drain, but then noticed there was standing water and a discoloration of the grout surrounding the natural stone. We tried to dry the shower floor using towels and a fan for over the course of five days to no avail,it seemed water kept seeping to the surface somehow. We had two different companies check the shower floor and were told the same by both-the natural stone floor was not installed properly, there were multiple cracks in the grout and unevenness that caused water to seep through the stone and grout where it could no longer drain away. Also water was seeping through the top of the shower bench to the extent mold was established to alarming extent. The floor and shower bench had to be completely removed and replaced. Further inspection found multiple pin holes in the shower wall grout which had to be patched and resealed.

In response. Never once did we respond we were satisfied and happy with the sub standard tile work. Quite the opposite. There was crooked tile work in the kitchen that had to be repaired as well. In regard to “courage”, we were standing around the dining room table during the last discussion with Greg Nelson where he told us he was done with us and absolutely would not bring any of his crew in to fix the issues. The idea that Nelson Construction “managed” our condo does not credit a response. As far as warranty work, we walked into a “supposedly finished job” to a noticeable dent in the front of the microwave and scratches on the glass cooktop, shelves missing from the refrigerator and the dishwasher incomplete, paint all over the tile floors, no cold water in the master shower, leaking faucet in the guest shower to name a few. In short the “punch list was very long.

Nelson Construction was engaged in Dec 2019 to renovate our 1636 Sq.Ft. Condominium to be completed April1, 2020. The job was not completed until late March of 2021. Greg Nelson stood in our living room belligerent, arrogant and condescending, waving his arms in the air pointing towards the family bath shouting that he was not bringing his crew back in to fix the very crooked grout me badlines on the wall tile so I could “sit on the toilet and see straight lines, I was too picky”, and even though he admitted it was “me bad” for not letting us know that there could be an issue with chips in the tile cutouts, he was not bringing a crew in to redo something that could possibly happen again.

I was looking for a reputable contractor to remodel a small condo. I spoke with Ashley and Chris on the phone; they were both friendly and patient with my questions and took the time to understand my needs. Ultimately, Ashley took the time to give me a good recommendation for a fantastic general contractor and to follow up with me afterward!

Nelson Construction did an excellent job repairing our condo from the hurricane water damage. They were quick and professional. Our project manager, Chuck was great! He communicated daily and was very responsive.

Greg and the team completely renovated a 1939 cottage and outbuildings for us in 2008 - 2009 to a modern coastal home with all the hurricane mitigation, completely new plumbing, electric, gas, roofs, Hardiplank siding, interiors, baths, and custom kitchens. Spectacular results! Even better was the process - efficient, proactive, engaging, on-time, and always a pleasure to deal with. Renovating old structures always has surprises - Greg handled them all constructively and with confidence. Highly recommended!

Early in our new build but so far the communication has been excellent. Started picking interior items and Yokasta and Jahnvi really captured my vision and simplified the process. So excited to pick out the rest with them.

Chuck Hammons is the kind of project manager every contractor hopes to work with. On every job we’ve done together, he’s brought clarity, structure, and an unmatched level of organization. He stays calm under pressure, communicates like a pro, and always keeps the ball moving forward. Chuck makes even complex projects feel manageable because he’s always two steps ahead. He’s one of the best in the business—and it shows.

Updated Review - Project Completed 4/18/24
This is a long review, but I promise it will be the most honest review you’ll read about Nelson Construction. I read reviews & interviewed quite a few construction companies for my outdoor living space before settling on Nelson; I’m glad I chose them. From start to finish they have been professional & responsive. Greg, the owner, is knowledgable, straightforward, & all of Nelson’s front office staff dealing with my unending emails & calls about the permitting process, allowances, etc. whew, they deserve a medal just for that. 🏆

As the customer, I would advise that you read your contract over & over a few times & ask questions about the finer details of the scope of work before signing it. This is something I would have done differently as the customer to avoid some change orders, albeit they were necessary (like relocation of my AC unit) I would have preferred they be included in the contract on the frontend as we had discussed, but I didn’t catch that it wasn’t included in my contract.

Prior to the project commencing, I literally, sent their lead designer, Yokasta, a Word doc of my wishlist for my space. She was so patient with me, even when I changed my mind (quite a few times) or told her a particular style wasn’t my taste & sent her back to the drawing board, she never complained. Totally professional. I even sent her my hand drawn, very rough sketches, & inspiration photos of what I wanted. And she & the engineers design plan exceeded my dreams 😇

Fortunately, I was assigned a site supervisor, Chuck, who is as meticulous as I am about having things done right; ok maybe he’s a little more meticulous than me. I’m sure his spirit animal is a pitbull & I mean that in the best possible way 😂 But Chuck’s expertise & years in construction provides him a solid foundation for holding the subcontractors feet to the fire! He was my voice & advocate for making sure the subcontractors followed through & met Nelson’s high expectations of building a quality product. Beyond that, because my home was occupied during the construction, he made sure I knew when the subcontractors would be on site & that my property was secured upon their departure. He really went the extra mile to oversee this project from start to finish. He is the epitome of what a site supervisor should be.

There were a lot of challenges with the pool subcontractor but Chuck & the Nelson team made certain things were up & running for me before I signed off on that aspect of the project. I don’t care what your budget is, if you’re anything like me you just want to know that you’re getting what you pay for. My family & I are in love with the quality of our outdoor space & we are ecstatic that after years of being in this home we finally have FL resort style living right in our backyard! At some point I’d like to have my primary bedroom expanded & you know who I’ll be calling?? You guessed it, Nelson Construction!
    Pros
    - [ ] All around professional team
    - [ ] Great communication w/ site supervisor
    - [ ] If a concern arises, you’ll be heard & there will be resolve
    - [ ] Use of technology; Buildtrend App - great for being kept abreast of project progress, with daily notes & supporting pics, even when you’re out of town & work is going on, you can check the app to see what transpired that day
    Cons
    - [ ] I wish Nelson took other forms of payment than cash or check (my project wasn’t bank financed; personal pay). There were some change orders I would have likely approved had I been able to swipe my credit card for them. But in hindsight this helped me stick to my budget 👌🏾
    - [ ] Give the client a running account of allowances as they are spent to maintain their budget & remain within their allowances. It’s a challenge to make selections not knowing whether what you’ve selected is more or less than your stated allowance. I understand this has since been updated in the Buildtrend app & the client can better keep track of their allowances. I look fwd to utilizing this feature of the app for future projects w/ Nelson.

I typically don’t leave reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience with Nelson Construction to help others avoid a frustrating situation.

I initially contacted Matt at Nelson Construction to request bids on two hurricane-damaged homes in Dunedin, FL. One of the homes is fully gutted and needs a complete remodel, and the other requires a renovation back to original condition. After completing site walkthroughs, Matt followed up with a design proposal for only one of the homes, asking me to pay $7,250 before providing a formal estimate. In other words, I was being asked to pay thousands of dollars just to receive a quote.

I explained that we are navigating a complex insurance claims process and needed general pricing before committing to any contractor. I also made clear that if Nelson’s bid exceeded the payout, then we would be forced to select a different firm, and in that case, any design work we paid for could be rendered useless. I was open about this from the start and assumed we would receive at least rough cost guidance for both properties.

Matt appeared to be on board, knowing full well that I was in the process of collecting bids. Approximately a month later I contact Matt for the numbers. However, he responded dismissively, stating that Nelson’s business model is design-first and implied that without payment, no further work would be done, even on the second home, which had received zero follow-up. After a full month of waiting, I called Matt directly to ask for clarification, only to be told that Nelson was no longer interested in the job.

In the end, Nelson Construction wasted weeks of my time during an already stressful and time-sensitive process. I’ve worked with many contractors and have never been asked to pay thousands of dollars just to get a bid. If you're managing an insurance claim or looking for a contractor who values transparency and responsiveness, then I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Matt was extremely unprofessional and numerous red flags were raised through the bidding process. Although I am now stuck in a situation where I must find a replacement bid, and my time has been wasted, at least I dodged a major bullet.

Nelson Construction and Chuck our superintendent were very thorough in getting us through our phases of repair/construction all the way to finish. Chuck is very dependable and I trusted him as my advocate in getting things done right all the time. The team behind him were supportive as well. As with most projects there are unknowns and things that come up that were not expected. Chuck and the team took care of all of those issues and made it easy for me. Good people at Nelson Construction and I would recommend them.

Working with Chuck Hammons from Nelson Construction on a project was an absolute standout experience. Chuck didn’t just do his job—he crushed it. His scheduling was dialed in to the hour, his communication was clear and consistent, and the way he kept everything organized made a huge difference for everyone involved. He stayed five steps ahead the entire project, which is rare in this industry. I’ve worked with a lot of project managers, and Chuck’s easily one of the best. Total pro. I’d work with him again in a heartbeat.

Also want do you think Ashley for taking care of all the back office stuff Super helpful to the point makes it for a smooth transaction
